Athens Students Hold Fundraiser for Bradford County Humane Society

Justin Adams and David Plouse held a two day senior project fundraiser at the Pine Cradle Lake Campground on September 5th and 6th. Pet food and other items were collected and delivered to the Bradford County Humane Society. A square dance was also held at the campground banquet hall and was donated by Roger and Cathy Druck. Music was provided by Sara Romanik. Admission to the square dance included pet food, bleach, supplies, and other items that are needed at BCHS.

Almost 1,000 pounds of pet food, cat litter and supplies was collected.

"I am always so impressed with students that choose our shelter for their senior projects. The amount of time and energy to collect items for our shelter pets is greatly appreciated," states Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.

BCHS would like to thank Justin and David as well as those that participated and donated to this fundraiser.

Commissioners Issue National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Proclamation

Bradford County Humane Society, along with Pete and Penny attended the Bradford County Commissioner's Meeting to proclaim November 1-7th as National Animal Shelter Awareness Week.

It was noted that the work of animal shelters and the important services they provide can often go unnoticed.

The commissioners thanked BCHS for their important services they provide to the community.

BCHS Fall Rabies Clinic October 17

The Bradford County Humane Society and Athens Animal Hospital have once again teamed up to provide a low cost Rabies Clinic for the local community.

On Sat, October 17th from 10-Noon people may bring their leashed dogs or cats in crates to the Athens Township Building on the corner of Elmira and Herrick Ave. Patrons must also bring the pets' current rabies shot record.

The cost for the rabies vaccination is only $8.00.

"It is extremely important for animals to have a current rabies shot. Even if you think your cat is only an inside cat, or your dog would never come into contact with the rabies virus, you could be wrong. There has been some incidents of various wildlife being contaminated with rabies. The last thing you would want is to put your animals' life or your own life in danger, by your pet possibly contracting the rabies virus," states Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.

Photo: Velvet is a handsome neutered male cat who has been at BCHS for 3.5 years. He is friendly without being cuddly and can be quite playful when he is in the mood. Velvet grew up at the shelter and was briefly adopted, but was stressed by the family children and hid in a closet all the time. He needs a quiet home with no small children and no dogs. Velvet will be sociable when he has had time to get comfortable and would be happy to share his people with other cats.

Birthday Girl Collects Donations for BCHS

MiKenna Guarjardo celebrated her birthday on September 27th and asked that instead of birthday gifts for herself, that her guests would donate items to the Bradford County Humane Society.

Guarjardo, from Wimberly, TX, has an Aunt Candy and Uncle Mark Parks in North Rome where they held the birthday party. She is also the granddaughter of Ann and Donald Burgess of Lime Hill.

Recently, there was flooding in San Marcos and Wimberly, TX. Many people were displaced and the Hollenbach Methodist Church, Springhill Methodist Church, members of the Wyalusing Methodist Church, and members of the Wyalusing Rotary and other friends and family members raised over $3,000 for supplies to give immediate relief to those flood victims in Texas.

Because of the generosity of the community, the Guarjardo family wanted to give back and chose to give donations to the Bradford County Humane Society.
