Pet Purrsonals: Topper

Sensitive about your looks? I'm your man! I can't see very well, so I don't care if you are funny looking. I see well enough to climb to high places and don't have any trouble getting around. I am affectionate and would be happy warming your lap on chilly winter evenings.

Stop by BCHS to meet me. I will probably be sleeping on one of the cat trees. I would do best in a home with no other cats.

A Special Dog Needs a Home

Every year over 1,700 animals find their way into the Bradford County Humane Society. Some are strays that come in via the dog warden or individuals; some are abandoned and some are, unfortunately, part of a humane investigation and require extreme veterinary care. Because their histories are almost always unknown, we have to learn about the animals from a new perspective.

One such animal, a Staffordshire Terrier mix named Slim, came to the shelter as a stray in November of 2012. Upon examination before a scheduled neutering, he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. Because of this he is not able to withstand surgery. Slim could have a long life, or it could be cut short because of his diagnosis.

Slim is a sweetheart who loves to go for walks and play in water. He walks OK on a leash, keeps his cage clean, and seems to get along with other dogs. Slim is looking for a nice family and a loving home.

If you feel you can open your heart and home to Slim, please stop in at BCHS on Route 220 in Ulster. His adoption fee will be waived for the right adopter.

Pet Purrsonals: Puff

Lonely? Handsome neutered male with pretty blue eyes wants to brighten your holidays. Affectionate, sociable, playful. Very chatty, will be great company. White hair goes great with any outfit.

Stop by the BCHS free roam cat room to meet me. There are three white cats, but I'm the only one with striking blue eyes.

Pet Personals: Shena

Looking for a good watchdog and someone to cuddle with? I can do both! Quiet, clean, good on a leash. Lovable and happy with people I know. Belly rubs appreciated.

Stop by BCHS to meet me. I may be wary at first, that's why I'd be a good watchdog. I can show you my heeling skills and demonstrate "sit".

BCHS Closing at 12:30 PM on Dec. 14

BCHS will close at 12:30 pm on Friday, December 14. We will re-open at our normal time on Saturday.

Pet Purrsonals: Beth

Hello! I am Beth, the offical greeter in the BCHS free roam cat room. Open the door and I will run up and say hello. I could perform this service for you in your own home. Salary requirements are minimal: food, treats, a cozy bed, and some attention.

Stop by the shelter for an interview. It's best if you have no other cats for me to boss around.

Pet Personals: Honey

10 year old spayed female with lots of good years left looking for love. Just look at my sad eyes - I miss having a family. Older dogs know all the ropes. I'm house trained, have good manners, and behave well on a leash. I love everybody and am good with kids. I'm a nice size, not too big, not too small, just right to snuggle on the couch. I would be a great addition to any family.

My name says it all. I am a sweetheart and I would brighten your holidays. Please come to BCHS and adopt me!

BCHS and Animal Care Sanctuary Partner to Hold 1st Annual Gala

The Bradford County Humane Society (BCHS) and Animal Care Sanctuary (ACS) have teamed up to hold a gala entitled, “A Night to Paws, Celebrating our Love of Animals” on Saturday, February 9th, 2013 from 6PM – 9 PM at The Club at Shepard Hills in Waverly, NY.

Don’t miss your chance to enjoy a fun evening with other animal lovers! Please show your support by joining us for a lovely evening of food, wine, music, dancing and more. The evening includes a fine dinner as well as a silent auction in an elegant atmosphere. Tickets are $50.00 each and you must pre-register. All proceeds benefit both Animal Care Sanctuary and the Bradford County Humane Society.

“Our community is very supportive of our animal shelters. This event will be a chance for our supporters to enjoy an evening out while supporting our shelter animals at the same time,”states Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.

The event is looking for sponsors. Sponsorship levels begin at $50 and go up to $1,000. Proceeds from the sponsors will assist in spaying and neutering pets, providing vaccinations for shelter animals, treat shelter animals for fleas and ticks, provide food for shelter pets as well as antibiotics and diagnostic testing for shelter animals.

We are also looking for items to be donated for the silent auction. If you have an item you would like to donate, please contact BCHS or ACS.

It is important for our communities to know that although we are two separate organizations, we work closely together on many projects throughout the year, whether it is an abuse case, promoting spay/neuter services, and yes, even trying to catch pot-bellied pigs that were abandoned on Route 220. “ says Joan Smith-Reese, Executive Director of Animal Care Sanctuary.

The goal of the gala is to raise at least $8,000 to help with the costs of caring for shelter animals at both ACS and BCHS as well as for the community members to have a lovely time. To purchase tickets, go to www.animalcaresantuary.org or purchase in person at BCHS in Ulster, or at ACS in East Smithfield.

Please contact BCHS at 570-888-2114 or ACS at 570-596-2200 for more information, to find our adoptable pets, to donate, and to find out about upcoming events. We are non-profit organizations, and we rely on donations from generous individuals to help us care for animals in need in and Bradford County.
