Help Make Bradford County Humane Society’s Holiday Wishes Come True
Adopters are invited to share how their adopted pet changed their life for a chance to win a $100,000 grant award for the animal welfare group they adopted from and a $1,000 Petco gift card for themselves!
The Petco Foundation, in partnership with Petco, will be granting Holiday Wishes in the form of more than $750,000 in grant awards to qualified animal welfare organizations. This contest is designed to help the animal welfare organizations save more lives during the holidays and year round.
The Bradford County Humane Society has the opportunity to receive the grand prize of a $100,000 grant, or a series of finalist awards ranging from $5,000 to $50,000. Anyone who has adopted a pet can submit a story to the Petco Foundation’s Holiday Wishes campaign, giving the organization they adopted from a chance to win one of several grant awards. The Bradford County Humane Society is asking any person or family who has adopted a pet from the organization to share their story to give The Bradford County Humane Society the opportunity to win a Holiday Wishes grant. Petco will also award the person who submits the winning story a $1,000 Petco gift card, giving them the chance to spoil their adopted pet.
People who adopted a pet through The Bradford County Humane Society are invited to share a story of how the love of their adopted pet brings more joy to their life each day, and how the love of their pet changes their life in a big or small way and makes it better (limit 500 words). Submissions should include photos and/or video that help tell the story. Simply log in to holidaywishes.fluidreview.com to submit.
The deadline to submit stories for a Holiday Wishes grant is October 15, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. CST. Adopters are encouraged to visit holidaywishes.fluidreview.com for more information and to get started as soon as possible.
The winning organizations and their featured pets will be announced in December.

Dogs Find Their Forever Homes From BCHS
Recently two dogs that have been at the shelter since the end of 2015 found their way into their forever homes.
Socks, a pit mix, had been at the shelter and just hadn't found the perfect home yet. Kyle Wyzga from Sayre came into the shelter on Thursday, September 1st and fell in love with Socks and knew it would be the right fit. (Photo left)
Butch, a Rottie mix, had been at the shelter since December of 2015. Troy Merritt of Stevensville came into the shelter already knowing that he wanted to adopt Butch. And a perfect home it turned out to be! On Friday, September 2nd, Butch went to his forever home. (Photo right)
Congrats to both Socks and Butch for being adopted into loving homes!
BCHS has many loving dogs and cats that are just waiting for their homes too - could you be their new family?
Pints for Pups Planned at Grovedale Winery
The Bradford County Humane Society, Grovedale Winery, and River Barge Brewery present Pints for Pups on Friday, September 16th from 6-10 PM at Grovedale Winery in Wyalusing. Live music featuring popular acoustic music by George Sobeck will be playing the duration of the event. Enjoy local brews, wine, food, live music and shop the BCHS table featuring t-shirts, pet toys and much more!
The $5 cover charge will be donated to BCHS to support their homeless animals.
Please keep your four-legged furry friends at home.
Senior Dog is Looking for Her Furever Home
The Bradford County Humane Society recently took in a senior dog that is looking for her forever home. Sally is a 14 year old Collie mix with limited eye sight and no teeth. This doesn't stop her from enjoying her senior years, however. She loves going for walks (at a slow pace), napping, and showing love. She requires a home with no other animals and no children so she can enjoy life with peace and quiet.
She is a staff favorite at BCHS due to her loving, sweet personality.

Local Girl Donates to Bradford County Humane Society
Karlie Benjamin from Laceyville recently had a party for her 9th birthday. In lieu of gifts she asked her guests to bring items for the animals at the Bradford County Humane Society. Pet food, cat litter and other items were donated to BCHS.
"We want to thank Karlie and the guests at her birthday party for thinking of our shelter animals. We sure appreciate it!, stated Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Director.

Hot Weather Means Proper Shelter Needed for Outside Dogs
Summer season is in full force and pet owners need to know the danger of hot weather and dogs that live outside. Dogs that are outside need to have proper shelter to protect them from the heat, rain, and inclement weather.
You can purchase dog houses at various home improvement stores or pet supply stores, or you can even build your own using wood.
The Bradford County Humane Society Humane Officer would like to remind you of the following:
The law of Pennsylvania Requires That You:
- 1. Supply FRESH food, water and necessary Veterinary care for all animals in your care or on your property.
- 2. Supply ALL animals' access to clean shelter sufficient to keep it dry, protect it from bad weather and be adequate to preserve its own body heat and shade to protect from the hot sun.
- 1. Penalties
- 2. Fines
- 3. Forfeiture
- 4. And or JAIL time
1. Do livestock such as horses, cows, donkeys, sheep, goats and pigs need shelter?
Reply: YES, they must at least have a three sided shelter that is clean and stays dry. A TREE LINE IS NOT CONSIDERED ADEQUATE SHELTER.
2. If a dog can get under a porch or under a vehicle is that considered to be adequate?
Reply: NO, They must have a coop or nice dog house that stays dry and is not in the mud. BEDDING MUST BE STRAW OR WOOD SHAVINGS ONLY, NO RAGS OR BLANKETS.

Athens Sunday School Class Donates to BCHS
Mrs. Reynold's Sunday School Class at the Greater Valley Assembly of God in Athens, recently had fundraiser to help the animals at the Bradford County Humane Society. All 8 class members contributed and collected items for the shelter. Some collected bottles and cans to be exchanged for money. The Sunday school class chooses a different organization each year to raise funds for.
More than $300 was raised since before Christmas to purchase items from the BCHS wish list such as pet food, toys, treats and cleaning supplies.
After bringing the items to the shelter they were given as tour of the facility.
"We are so happy that they chose our shelter animals to benefit from their fundraiser! What a great group doing wonderful things for our community," stated Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.
