BCHS 20th Annual Shop for Pete & Penny at Tops in Wysox

Tops Markets in Wysox is partnering with The Bradford County Humane Society to hold their 20th annual "Shop for Pete & Penny" fundraiser as part of its recognition of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.

Shop for Pete and Penny will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Wysox Tops Market in the Bradford Towne Center shopping plaza. BCHS Representatives will be on hand with Wish Lists of items that the shelter is always in need of. These include: Non-clumping cat litter, kitten food, puppy chow, cat food and dog food (both canned and dry), laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, bleach for cleaning, 40/50 gallon garbage bags, collars and leashes, latex gloves and sponges for cleaning.

BCHS Fall Rabies Clinic November 4

The Bradford County Humane Society and Athens Animal Hospital have once again teamed up to provide a low cost Rabies Clinic for the local community.

On Sat November 4th from 10-Noon people may bring their leashed dogs or cats in crates to the Athens Township Building on the corner of Elmira and Herrick Ave. Patrons must also bring the pets' current rabies shot record.

The cost for the rabies vaccination is only $8.00.

"It is extremely important for animals to have a current rabies shot. Even if you think your cat is only an inside cat, or your dog would never come into contact with the rabies virus, you could be wrong. There has been some incidents of various wildlife being contaminated with rabies. The last thing you would want is to put your animals' life or your own life in danger, by your pet possibly contracting the rabies virus," states Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.

The Kmart store in Wysox is partnering with The Bradford County Humane Society to host the event "Shop for Emmy and Chief," on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Wysox Kmart in the Bradford Towne Center shopping plaza. Pints for Pups Planned at Bluestone Brewing Company

The Bradford County Humane Society and Bluestone Brewing Company present Pints for Pups on Saturday, May 13th from 12-3 at Bluestone Brewing Company located at 18 Pitney Street, South Waverly, PA. Live music featuring popular acoustic music by Dennis Winge will be playing. Enjoy local brews, live music and shop the BCHS table featuring t-shirts, pet toys and much more!

The $5 cover charge will be donated to BCHS to support their homeless animals.

BCHS to Host Paws for Celebration

The Bradford County Humane Society is planning its third annual, "Paws for Celebration" on Saturday, April 22nd from 6-10 pm at Tomasso's Country Club in Waverly, NY. This event will feature a delicious dinner, silent auction items, 50/50 raffles, door prizes and live music by Brian Murphy. Tickets are $40 each.

We invite you to be a part of this exciting event! All proceeds from the evening will support BCHS in its mission to provide shelter, food, and veterinary care to abandoned, homeless and stray animals in Bradford and Sullivan Counties.

Every year close to 1,000 animals find their way into BCHS' shelter doors.They all have their own stories and personalities but all deserving of the same thing...a second chance.

The elves at BCHS are making their plans and checking them twice because on Saturday, December 10th, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. we are inviting our pet-loving public and their four-footed companions to stop by and say "Merry Christmas." While here be sure to visit all of our pets available for adoption. You can munch on light refreshments and share pet-lover stories with the staff and board. Enjoy local brews, wine, food, live music and shop the BCHS table featuring t-shirts, pet toys and much more!

Spayed and Neutered Cat Special at BCHS

For a limited time, starting now, any cat that is spayed or neutered can be adopted for only $25. "There are so many cats and kittens this time of year at our shelter. Each cat has their own personality and is just waiting for their chance to be adopted into their forever home," states Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.

Some of the cats at BCHS have been at the shelter longer than others, but all are deserving of a loving home to call their own.

Photo: Velvet has been at BCHS for 4 years, since he was a tiny kitten. He is our longest term resident. Velvet is a handsome neutered male cat who is sociable without being cuddly. He follows visitors that he knows around the cat room and likes to be petted but not picked up. Velvet will take a while to settle into a new home, so he needs a patient family who is willing to give him the time he needs. Commotion scares him, so he would do best in a quiet home with no small children. He would be happy to share his people with other cats. Once he settles in and knows his family, he will probably be much more affectionate. Velvet is a really nice boy looking for the right home. Please help us send him home.

On Sat, April 16th from 10-Noon people may bring their leashed dogs or cats in crates to Bishop's True Value (the building behind the True Value Store) on Route 220 in Ulster . Patrons must also bring the pets' current rabies shot record.

The cost for the rabies vaccination is only $8.00.

This year 2016 dog licenses will also be offered to those in need. Costs vary dependent on whether the dog is altered and whether the owner is disabled or a senior citizen.

Photo: Doc as been at BCHS since he was 2 months old. He is a sweet and loving kitty who can be a bit shy with new people. He likes to be cuddled and has velvety soft fur. Doc has a mellow personality and gets along great with other cats. Unfortunately, he has become stressed here at the shelter and sprays when out of his cage, so he needs a patient family who will give him time to adjust. He may need to be an inside/outside cat. Doc has been waiting a long time for the right person to find him - is it you?

BCHS and Ferrario's Present Caturday!

The Bradford County Humane Society and Ferrario Auto Team in Towanda are partnering for an exciting event called, "Caturday!", on Saturday, March 26th from 10a-2p.

BCHS will have a table set up inside Ferrario Auto Team's showroom in Towanda selling various retail items such as t-shirts, dog toys, cat toys, leashes and others to support the shelter. Bring a bag of cat food, dog food, bleach or pet toys to Ferrario Auto Team in Towanda on March 26th. Adoptable cats and dogs will also be on hand along with BCHS volunteers.

"We are very excited to partner with Ferrario's in Towanda to give an opportunity for the local community to support our shelter. We are always in need of pet food, bleach for cleaning purposes and cat litter for the homeless animals that we care for," states Jennifer L. Spencer, BCHS Executive Director.

"Stop by Ferrario Auto Team in Towanda and help us stuff a truck! Bring some much needed pet supplies and join the fun "Caturday" March 26th!" states Don Ferrario.

Photo: Lady invites you to Caturday! Little Lady Lioness aka Lady is a 3 year old female cat who was signed over by her owner. She is a pretty girl with a sweet and mellow personality. Lady has a neurological issue that gives her tremors and makes her stagger when she walks. Lady needs a home with no stairs and no children. She gets around OK but has no ability to defend herself. We recommend no dogs unless it is a very laid back dog that is very friendly with cats. She needs a shallow litter box with no cover. Lady is a sweetheart looking for a special home that can accommodate her physical limitations.

She is very affectionate and comes out for attention when there is no commotion. She would like a quiet home and would reward her family with lots of love.

Commissioners Issue National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Proclamation

Bradford County Humane Society, along with Pete and Penny attended the Bradford County Commissioner's Meeting to proclaim November 1-7th as National Animal Shelter Awareness Week.

It was noted that the work of animal shelters and the important services they provide can often go unnoticed.

The commissioners thanked BCHS for their important services they provide to the community.

Photo: Velvet is a handsome neutered male cat who has been at BCHS for 3.5 years. He is friendly without being cuddly and can be quite playful when he is in the mood. Velvet grew up at the shelter and was briefly adopted, but was stressed by the family children and hid in a closet all the time. He needs a quiet home with no small children and no dogs. Velvet will be sociable when he has had time to get comfortable and would be happy to share his people with other cats.

Photo: Duffy is a middle aged adult neutered male American Bulldog mix. He is a calm and quiet sweetheart with a mellow personality. Duffy knows sit and shake and behaves on a leash for a strong handler. He gets along with everyone and would be a fine addition to any family.

Photo: Clyde is a very friendly adult neutered male Pit Bull mix who likes everyone. He behaves well on a leash and appears to be house trained. Clyde has nice manners, takes treats politely, and knows sit. He is a quiet dog who will be good company without being hyper. He can get his exercise on a treadmill if the weather isn't suitable for long walks. Clyde loves to play and can be rambunctious, so we recommend a home with no small children. He can be rowdy, but calms down quickly. Clyde understands clicker training, so a clicker can be used to help him learn the rules of a new home. He appears to be friendly with cats. Clyde is ready and willing to be your new best friend.
